Free From Religiosity

Do you have a religion or a relationship? Are you seeking productivity or presence?

When we meet Jesus He calls us into relationship and into His presence. But we so often get stuck in religion and productivity. Are we missing all that Jesus has for us when we encounter him in relationship and experience and know His presence - a 'life in all its fullness'?

In her talk, Emily Elgar starts to unpack these themes and encourages us to respond.

Free from the rat race

Catherine continues our new series - ‘Free From’ - exploring how a relationship with Jesus gives us freedom in our lives.

In her talk Catherine explores how Jesus gives us freedom from the rat race of life.

In his book, “The ruthless elimination of hurry”, John Mark Comer says

“ Satan doesn’t turn up with a pitchfork and a gravelly smoker voice….Today you’re far more likely to run into the enemy in the form of an alert on your phone while you’re reading the Bible, or a multiday Netflix binge, or a full-on addiction to Instagram, or a Saturday morning at the office, or another football game on a Sunday, or commitment after commitment after commitment in a life of speed.”

Free to give thanks - Psalm 100

Alistair begins our new series on the book of Psalms focusing on Psalm 100.

Juanita Ryan, at the beginning of her study on psalms, writes that ‘the psalms are acts of relating to God. In the intense language of poetry, they address God with frankness and urgency. They give voice to our inner turmoil... The psalms offer us the gifts of expression, courage and celebration - and the gift of raw honesty. The psalms do not attempt to be “nice” or “polite” or even “theologically correct.” Instead, they give us permission to talk to God without holding back and to be exactly where we are and who we are with God.’ The psalms enable us to be ‘free to’ (as our series is entitled) talk to God and allow Him to impact every aspect of our lives as we open ourselves to Him with honest prayer. My hope is that this series will encourage and equip us to dive into, not only the individual psalms we will be focusing on, but into the whole book, enlivening our prayer life and reigniting our worship to God.

Intentional with our love

Alistair finished our series on ‘Intentional Living’ exploring how we can be intentional with our love and focusing on the amazing passage in 1 John 4.

‘God is love. It is his fundamental nature - the very characteristic of who God is, is love… When we love people we display some of God in the world’.

Alistair sets out a challenge to us as a church to ‘Love Greystones’ - to display and demonstrate the love of God to those in our community.
